While your customers may feel that regular vehicle washings seem
like a waste of time during the winter months, keeping a car or
truck’s surface and undercarriage clean is a vital task, according
to Mike Pennington, a product expert at Meguiar's.
Motorists should be consistently cleaning their vehicles to remove
the snow, sleet and salt. Pennington suggests using a high
pressure apparatus, paying special attention to removing elements
that may collect in the undercarriage and wheel wells. Hot water
shouldn’t be applied, however, as it may cause glass to
crack.
Special attention should be paid to wheel care, he says, because
permanent damage can result from winter’s onslaught.
Pennington notes that Meguiar’s line of Hot Rims wheel cleaners
“combat grit and grime on the face as well as the inside of the
wheel, making sure the wheels remain in great condition.”
To prepare glass surfaces for winter’s arrival, the company’s
Smooth Surface Clay Kit can be utilized prior to applying a water
repellant product. The claying process will remove any bonded
debris, allowing the repellant to perform at the highest level, he
says. To ensure continued visibility, use a quality automotive
glass cleaner and microfiber towel to keep the glass free of
winter debris.
To make certain that drivers can see and be seen, Pennington says
the company’s Headlight Restoration Kit will maximize headlamp
clarity and brightness. Meguiar’s PlastX can also be applied once
a month to ensure safe driving and prolonged headlight protection,
he adds.
A vehicle’s interior often suffers during the cold, wet months
when clothes and shoes drag in dirt, Pennington continues. He
recommends vacuuming all the cloth surfaces regularly and using
the company’s Quik Out Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner to immediately
remove stains. “In addition, Meguiar’s Odor Eliminator is the
answer for making sure cars are kept smelling fresh and clean in
spite of poor weather conditions.”
