Tire Rack’s 6.6-mile loop of expressway, state highway and county roads provided a variety of road conditions, including city and highway speeds, smooth and coarse concrete and new and patched asphalt. The tire distributor tested for noise, comfort, ride quality and everyday handling.
The AltiMAX RT was previously rated No. 1 by Tire Rack in an August 2007 independent road test. Based on the tire’s “supreme handling and exceptional wet grip,” Tire Rack again gave it the top rating, listing it as “an excellent all- around standard touring all-season tire.”
General says the AltiMAX RT “is a stylish touring tire that offers a smooth, comfortable ride without compromising treadwear.”
It features Visual Alignment Indicators (VAI), which help motorists visually identify alignment irregularities so they are able to take proper re-alignment precautions to extend the life of the tire; Acoustic Modulation Sound Technology (AMST), a sound wave suppression technology that substantially reduces road-tire noise; and a Twin Cushion Silica Tread Compound, comprised of unique high- and low- density treads “to deliver the ultimate in ride comfort.”
