Headquartered in Greenville, the tire maker is among the automotive industry sponsors of the inaugural ‘Motorsports on Main' event taking place throughout the community's downtown area.
Race cars, special displays, racing simulators, driver autographs, team merchandise, ticket giveaways and family fun are all a part of the scene as companies such as Michelin, BMW and the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research celebrate the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and prepare for the circuit's Oct. 2 season finale, the Petit Le Mans at Georgia's Road Atlanta."As a proud partner of the American Le Mans Series, we are thrilled for the opportunity to organize a day to share the excitement of the series with local fans, racing enthusiasts and community members," says Silvia Mammone, Michelin's motorsports manager.
"Partners of the ALMS are joining us to celebrate, educate, and provide our residents, students, families and business community an opportunity to learn about the cars, energies, technologies and environmental programs that will be seen at the Petit Le Mans, just 100 miles away from Greenville next weekend," she explains.
The Petit Le Mans "is an increasingly important and prestigious international event," according to Mammone, with entries from BMW, Audi, General Motors, Peugeot, Porsche, Mazda, Ferrari, HPD, Ford and the debut of the new Porsche GT3 R Hybrid.
"As the final race of the season, the competition is fierce and the action intense," she reports.
