Bridgestone is initiating a safety recall of its R192 275/70R22.5 Load Range J (18 ply) tires used primarily on intra-city buses in the U.S. and Canada.

Slightly more than 4,000 tires are involved.

The R192 features a sidewall wear indicator (dimple) that is used to monitor sidewall wear. The specified depth of the tires’ dimples may result in exposed body ply cord, according to company executives.

“Over time, this condition could result in the deterioration of the body ply cord, creating the potential for air loss at the location of the dimple,” the report. “At this time we are not aware of any incidents of air loss related to this condition.”

Bridgestone will immediately begin replacing tires in its mileage sales program, and expects that by July 10 a sufficient quantity of tires will be available at regional locations to replace the recalled tires. The company anticipates that all of the recalled tires will be replaced by July 31.
