Continental is unveiling a new steer and all-position tire for long-distance buses and RVs at the March 25-27 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.
“The HSL1 Coach shows great promise in helping motorcoach operators, and even recreational vehicle owners, to save money at the fuel pump while still offering the peace of mind of optimal handling,” says marketing director Clif Armstrong. “It’s a great balance of long mileage, excellent reliability and fuel savings.”
The launch of the premium Heavy Steer Long Haul model is part of Continental’s “Untamed Innovation Tour” mobile exhibit at the trucking show.
“Not only does the HSL1 Coach offer a quiet ride, but a low rolling resistance compound and a special tread design provide excellent fuel economy,” according to Roger Stansbie, director of radial truck tire technology development. It meets the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership’s rolling resistance limits and has been submitted for verification as a fuel saving tire, he adds.
“Evenly-distributed pressure throughout the tire’s footprint will allow for uniform wear and outstanding mileage, which lower driving costs for coach operators,” says Armstrong. A 19/32-inch tread depth and five rib tread pattern provide excellent handling, he notes, “which is crucial in this application.”
