Past Solo National Champion and Team Toyo driver Tim Smith has started the 2010 autocross season by winning the Street Touring class in the Dixie National Tour at South Georgia Motorsports Park.

Piloting his 1989 Honda Civic Si equipped with Proxes R1R extreme performance tires, Smith defeated a 14-car field during the two-day event.

A number of cars using the Toyos took top positions in several classes, including first through seventh in ST, first and third in STL, first and second in STS, and first and third in STR. “That represents four wins out of five classes where Proxes R1R-equipped cars were entered,” says Stan Chen, Toyo’s manager of events and motorsports.

“The Proxes R1R continues to be the tire of choice for winning drivers in the street touring classes of SCCA Solo,” according to Chen. “Tim Smith has demonstrated once again that he is the person to beat in the ST class.”

He goes on to note how the 140 UTQG R1R is ideal for aggressive street driving, the street touring category of SCCA autocross and the street classes at time attacks. It has been ridden to consecutive championships in SCCA Solo National Championships, Redline Time Attack and Formula Drift and is also the tire of choice for high performance driving schools and track days, Chen says.
