Pirelli will not extend its three-year tire supply contract with the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series following the 2010 racing season.
Since 2008 the company has been providing its P Zero Racing Slick and P Zero Racing Rain tires to the series’ drivers.
“We decided not to pursue renewing our contract with Grand-Am, in order to redeploy our resources on sustainable growth with a wider range of motorsports customers throughout North America and with a goal of improved profitability,” says Tom Gravalos, Pirelli’s vice president of motorsports, marketing and original equipment sales.
“Pirelli’s North American Motorsport operations will reinforce our national network of motorsport tire distribution while accessing a greater breadth of the race tire market,” he adds. “Pirelli looks forward to continued successes with Grand-Am in the upcoming 2010 season.”
The series will have 12 races next year, beginning with the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 30-31 and ending with a Sept. 12 event at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.
Teams and drivers will have the opportunity to complete their P Zero tire testing prior to the season’s start on January 8-9 at Daytona International Speedway.
“As our North American Motorsport operations continue to grow, so to does our research and development, team and logistics support and partnerships here in the U.S. and abroad,” says Gravalos.
“Grand-Am is a part of the breadth and depth of Pirelli’s century-long heritage of global dominance in the world of motorsports, and we look for great things in our third season of Grand-Am Road Racing,” he points out.
“The Pirelli Team did a fantastic job in 2009, and we expect the same in 2010,” says Gianluca Grioni, Pirelli’s North American motorsports manager. “We work to provide the teams of Grand-Am with the best product and service possible, no matter the weather or temperature. P Zero offers drivers the safety, quality and durability needed to remain competitive.”
