This past weekend’s South Point SNORE 250 in Primm, Nev. saw Ron Whitton and co-driver Chas Dana claim the overall checkered flag in their Toyo Tires/Whitton Companies/G&R Racing Ford F-150.
Competing on 39X13.50R17 Toyo Open Country M/T-R tires, the pair finished the desert race course with a time of 04:59:26.343.
The race marked the 40th anniversary for the Southern Nevada Off-Road Enthusiasts, and is the second consecutive SNORE win for Whitton and Dana, having won their class at the KC HiLites Midnight Special race in August.
The duo’s race was trouble-free except for a header bolt that fell out on the second lap. The team spent nine-and-a-half minutes repairing the bolt in the pits, but made up the deficit to win overall by a 50-second margin.
“These Toyo tires are awesome,” says Whitton. “Considering we have a 5,000 pound truck running through rocks and holes, they are the greatest things that have happened to us in off-road racing.”
Robby Gordon, also running on Toyo’s, won at Primm during a previously held SCORE desert race, reports Stan Chen, the tire maker’s manager of events and motorsports.
