It’s what they call a bright “Carolina day” for Continental Tire as the company’s new North American headquarters is now up and running in Lancaster County, S.C. following a gala dedication ceremony.

The state-of-the-art, $11 million dollar facility consists of a 75,000-square-foot building on 11.5 acres in the northern portion of the county near the community of Indian Land. Forsite Development constructed the complex in just over a year; local residents were hired to landscape and prepare the premises for occupancy.

It currently employees 375 people with the prospect of future expansion.

The company relocated southward from Charlotte, N.C. after being offered a series of governmental incentives. The county granted a property tax rate freeze at 6 percent and up to $200,000 in tax rebates, while the state provided job development credits, according to the Rock Hill Herald newspaper.

“We are grateful to South Carolina for helping us develop this beautiful new headquarters,” says Continental CEO Matthias Schoenberg.

“The Lancaster County Economic Development Corporation and the State of South Carolina were instrumental in the decision to move our headquarters,” he notes. “We appreciate their efforts on our behalf and we look forward to a long and successful future in South Carolina.”

Schoenberg explains that the company “has built a solid reputation by providing outstanding products throughout our 138-year history, and this move to South Carolina is just the next step in our ongoing effort to contribute to the North and South American markets.”

The new headquarters is in the MacMillan Business Park, located four miles away from Interstate 77 in York County and less than two miles from the North Carolina border.

“This is an exciting move…one that’s good for employees, our business and the region,” Schoenberg says.
