Continental Tire has been named an original equipment supplier for new-year models from Mercedes-Benz.

The company will provide its CrossContact UHP tire in size 295/35R21 107Y XL for the 2009 ML63 AMG, the most powerful vehicle in Mercedes’ M-Class range.

Continental has also been selected to supply OE tires for the new 2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan. The ContiProContact tire will roll off the automaker’s assemble lines for the U.S. market with the following sizes: 255/45 R18 99H all-round, 255/45 R18 99H in combination with 275/45 R18 103H front and rear mixed fitment, the 255/40R19 100V XL all-round and the 255/40 R19 100V XL in combination with 275/40R19 101V front and rear mixed fitment.

The ML63 AMG has a 510-hp 6.3l V8 engine. To match the powertrain’s robustness, the vehicle is equipped with an air suspension system that incorporates the AIRMATIC level adjustment adaptive damping technology that — together with the 4-wheel ABS, brake assist (BAS), ESP and 4ETS — provides the vehicle with exceptional dynamic ride qualities and safety, according to the company.

As a luxury ultra-high performance SUV tire, the CrossContact UHP “emphasizes high levels of grip, stability, responsiveness and driving dynamics to match the vehicle performance and to enhance the driving experience,” a spokesperson notes.

“Achieving the technical approval for the range topping and most powerful M-Class vehicle further entrenches our position as a premium tire supplier,” the spokesperson continues. “We are very pleased to continue our developmental partnership with such a demanding and leading vehicle manufacturer.”

Mercedes’ new S-Class is more powerful than its predecessor and incorporates new technologies to provide improved levels of safety and performance, Continental reports.

The spokesperson points out that its ContiProContact is a “versatile, all-season performance tire that provides excellent wet handling, steering response and a comfortable quiet ride: The outstanding ride comfort was a key criterion in the approval from Mercedes-Benz.”
