General Tire is saluting a smokin’ two seasons of competition delivered by the company’s Canadian drifting team following its second consecutive championship victory. This weekend the trio will celebrate their record of winning performances by appearing up close and personal alongside their fans at the Oct. 16-18 SCP Auto Salon at Montréal Olympic Stadium.

Now in its third year, the Castrol DMCC Constructor drifting series is the biggest, most popular, most attended and most diverse grassroots motorsport series in all of Canada, according to Guy Hardiman, general manager of Continental Tire Canada.

“With six rounds in three provinces, from East to West, massive media coverage, rising drifting stars, new cars and new sponsors – the stage is set,” he observes.

“Drifting is the ultimate test for our tires, combining traction and horsepower constantly on the limits of adhesion,” says Hardiman. “General Tire brand tires are engineered to the highest standards of performance, handling and comfort, and finishing No. 1 for the second year in a row proves that we can bring a great deal of value to our customer.”

Team captain and long time ambassador to the Canadian drifting scene, Marco Santos, pilots an Infiniti G35 while the other two team members, Haig Kanadjian and Dany Bernier, slide around the track in a Nissan 240sx and a Ford Mustang GT.

The trio, who many believe to be the Canadian “dream team” of drifting, not only proved that their stylish and skillful drifting techniques were up to par, but good enough to win the DMCC Constructor Championship the second time in a row by finishing with the most combined points of any other tire manufacturer team involved, Hardiman says.

“I’m proud to be supported by a tire company that actually listens to our feedback and makes the necessary moves to ensure we perform at a professional and championship level,” says Santos. “Through wet or dry conditions, our tires made the difference between going home or drinking champagne at the end of the day.”

With a first place finish in Round 1 in Québec City, Santos set the base for a successful new drifting season. Six weeks later, Haig proved his performance winning Round 3 at the same location. The team followed up with a double podium finish at the l’Autodrome St-Eustache in Montréal.
