I-CAR debuts live demonstrations within spot welding course

May 24, 2012

May 24, 2012—I-CAR this week debuted an enhancement to its Squeeze-Type Resistance Spot Welding course with implementation of live demonstrations throughout the training.

I-CAR said the course, WCS04, provides students with information that enables them to perform successful welds in order to achieve safe and complete repairs. Proper spot welding methods decrease damage to corrosion protection and replication of production weld appearance, I-CAR said.

The live demonstrations that I-CAR added to the course demonstrate how to properly set up machines, how to align and maintain electrode tips, how to make spot welds, how to identify and correct weld defects, how to understand and visually inspect spot welds, and how to destructively test welds for quality.

“The success of the weld and the ability to achieve a safe and complete repair can be improved by the technician’s knowledge of proper methodology, equipment usage, and identification and inspection techniques,” said Jason Bartanen, technical director for I-CAR. “If a spot weld is not performed correctly, the risk of a weak or deformed weld will compromise the integrity of the repair. The new live demonstration portions in this course will be very relevant to technicians who apply spot welding techniques in their day-to-day jobs.”

I-CAR said the overall content provided by the training course will remain the same. The course will still fulfill the Spot Welded Panel Replacement knowledge area for the I-CAR ProLevel 1 for Steel Structural technicians, and the Squeeze-Type Resistance Spot Welding knowledge area for the I-CAR ProLevel 2 for Non-Structural technicians.
