Child Passenger Safety Week: Car seat inspections offered

Sept. 21, 2010

September 21, 2010—SafeKids USA will inspect car seats at check up events across the country on Seat Check Saturday during Child Passenger Safety Week.

Since 1997, in partnership with General Motors Foundation, SafeKids USA has inspected more than 1.28 million car seats, donated more than 457,000 car seats to families in need and educated more than 21 million parents, according to a SafeKids USA press release_notes.

"When it comes to child passenger safety, there is absolutely no room for error. It's critical that parents and caregivers understand how to properly install their child seats in their vehicles," said David Strickland, U.S. Department of Transportation's administrator for National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "We urge parents to visit one of the thousands of seat check sites across the nation to ensure kids are safely buckled up—every trip, every time."

Parents can find a Sept. 25 car seat check location on at safekids.org.
