Chrysler OKs Akzo Nobel pre-treatment systems

March 25, 2011

March 25, 2011 — Chrysler recently approved the use of two Akzo Nobel pre-treatment systems for regulated and unregulated markets.

The products, which had to undergo an extensive review process from Chrysler, are from Akzo Nobel’s Sikkens brand.

The system approved for unregulated markets includes AutoPrep (Pre-treatment Wipes)/Colorbuild Plus (undercoat)/Autobase Plus (basecoat) and Autoclear III (clearcoat). AutoPrep Pre-Treatment Wipes/Colorbuild Plus 250 (undercoat)/Autowave (basecoat) and Autoclear Superior (clearcoat) were approved for regulated markets.

The pre-treatment wipes are a new, primary component of each system, according to Akzo Nobel.

“This product innovation minimizes time, maximizes efficiency and lowers the environmental impact of the pre-treatment process,” said Stefan Wieditz, director of RD&I Global Automotive Technology for Akzo Nobel. “This process is critical to returning a vehicle to its pre-accident condition and its structural integrity.”

Laura Costello, marketing director for Akzo Nobel, said the company was “extremely gratified” to get Chrysler’s approval.

“These systems are priorities in the repair process and represent two key technological evolutions for both Akzo Nobel and the collision repair industry,” she said.

Akzo Nobel, based in the Netherlands, supplies paints, coatings and specialty chemicals throughout the globe. For more information on the company, go to akzonobel.com.
