July 26, 2010—Massachusetts collision industry professionals and state representatives, aids and legislative directors came together for Legislative Briefing Day to present the State House of Representatives with facts supporting the passage of the Auto Body Labor Rate Bill.
The bill aims to create an advisory commission and a labor rate validation system. About 125 industry professionals along with 15 state representatives and others, turned out to support the bill.
“A large part of the battle in getting legislation of any kind passed is making sure the decision-makers are familiar with your cause,” said Peter Abdelmaseh, executive director for the Alliance of Automotive Service Professionals/Massachusetts (AASP/MA). “The repairers in support of this bill have worked very hard to make their voices heard throughout our journey to this point.”
The bill was passed unanimously by the Massachusetts Senate and must be passed by the House before the session ends July 31. If the House passes the bill, state Gov. Deval Patrick will sign it into law.
