GAAS scholarship applications on pace to double 2010 numbers

March 14, 2011

March 14, 2011 — More than 700 applications have been started for Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) scholarships, nearly double the total amount received last year, the organization said Monday.

So far, 120 of those applications have been completed. In 2010, 375 applications were submitted and 94 students were awarded scholarships from the GAAS fund and its contributors. Collaborating groups gave an addition 61 awards.

“We are thrilled to see a strong pool of scholarship applicants with less than a month to go until the deadline for submitting applications closes,” said Pete Kornafel, chairman of the GAAS Scholarship Selection Committee. “I encourage everyone in the industry to remind their employees and customers about the opportunity to help young people start their aftermarket careers through the GAAS scholarship program.”

GAAS scholarships are awarded to students planning careers in the automotive aftermarket industry. Scholarships range from $250 to $3,000. The scholarship has presented more than $1.5 million to more than 1,500 students over the program’s 15-year history.
