New Pennsylvania bill would crack down on airbag fraud
Sept. 1, 2010
September 1, 2010—Pennsylvania state Rep. Matthew Bradford introduced a bill that would penalize those who practice fraudulent acts regarding airbag installation in the state.
The Motor Vehicle Airbag Fraud Prevention Act would require that:
• All airbag’s VIN numbers must be clearly marked and recorded;
• No system or object can be in place of the airbag or interfere with the airbag;
• Any business installing a salvaged airbag must clearly mark and inform the car owner that the airbag is a salvaged airbag.
The bill would also limit the selling and purchasing of salvaged airbags and prohibit selling or purchasing stolen airbags.
