Study: nearly 9 of 10 drivers use cell phone while driving

Most drivers still use cell phones while on the road even though it’s proven to be dangerous, according to a study release_notesd Tuesday by Cellcontrol.
The study found that 88 percent of drivers admitted to using their cell phone to text, email, surf the Web or have a conversation in the past 12 months. Nearly 75 percent of the same group agreed that texting behind the wheel is as dangerous as driving while intoxicated. Cellcontrol, based in Baton Rouge, La., makes products to inhibit the use of unsafe cell phone use while driving.
Cellcontrol’s study also found that 72 percent of drivers use cell phones and other mobile devices despite bans on such usage in their states.
