June 12, 2013—Wisconsin Assemblyman Ed Brooks (R-50) recently introduced Assembly Bill 237 that proposes anti-steering legislation on behalf of insurance companies for glass repair, according to the Automotive Service Association (ASA).
According to Wisconsin’s Legislative Reference Bureau (LRB), it is prohibited for motor vehicle insurance providers to require policyholders to obtain glass repair or replacement services from a specific vendor.
Assembly Bill 237 states that the “consumer has the right to select the motor vehicle repair facility of his or her choice.” The proposed bill would prohibit insurers from requiring that repairs be made by a particular facility as a condition of coverage, and from failing to initiate investigations of claims based on whether the repair will be made by a particular vendor.
Hearings for Assembly Bill 237 have not yet been scheduled.
