NABC moves forward with In-Language Initiative

Dec. 6, 2010

Dec. 6, 2010—The National Auto Body Council (NABC) has started to develop strategies for how best to implement its In-Language Initiative, according to an NABC press release_notes.

The initiative is to provide non-English speakers equal access to training, service and product resources.

NABC developed the Knowledge Community to strategize how best to implement the initiative. Members of the Knowledge Community are:
• Karen Fierst, NABC board member;
• Javier Avalos, Ina Road Auto Collision;
• Al Estorga, Estorga’s Collision Repair;
• German Mejia, I-CAR Southeast Regional Manager;
• Gene Lopez, I-CAR Southwest Regional Manager;
• Denise Pina, Brea Auto Body;
• Ben Mendoza, Kelly's Body Shop.

The initiative, which was approved at the NABC board meeting on Nov. 2, will initially focus on the Spanish-speaking community because they are the fastest growing in the United States, according to an NABC press release.

The community has begun discussing how it will account for the fact that Spanish speakers from different geographic areas use different terminology and that translators may not have a background in the collision industry.

The NABC will hold its first formal meeting of stakeholders during the Collision Industry Conference planning meeting in January at the Hilton Palm Springs Hotel in Palm Springs, Calif.
