Automakers Urge Insurance Companies to Remind Drivers of Recalls

April 13, 2016

April 13, 2016—Automakers are urging insurance companies to remind U.S. drivers about open recalls on their vehicles, according to a report from Reuters.

The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and the Association of Global Automakers sent letters to chief executive officers of major U.S. insurance companies, including State Farm, Liberty Mutual, Geico, Progressive and Nationwide, asking them for "assistance in establishing a new way to provide vehicle owners with information about any open safety recalls that may affect their car or truck and to urge that owners have the recall work performed as soon as possible."

The letter said that about 25 percent of all recalled vehicles in the U.S. never get fixed. Automakers recalled 51.3 million U.S. vehicles in 2015 and 63.9 million in 2014.
