SCRS to Host Aluminum Parts Presentation at SEMA

Aug. 25, 2014

Aug. 25, 2014—The Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) will hold a new automotive materials presentation focused on aluminum at the upcoming Speciality Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) Show on November 5 in Las Vegas.

The presentation will be part of SCRS' OEM Collision Repair Technology Summit, which is making its debut this year. Doug Richman, technical committee chairman of the Aluminum Transportation Group (ATG), will give a presentation about what role aluminum plays in collision repair businesses now versus how the material will impact the industry in the future.

Richman is also vice president of engineering and technology at Kaiser Aluminum. He notes that recent automaker studies have indicated that within 10 years, 70 percent of new North American pickups will be aluminum-bodied.

"The ATG is eager to share with SCRS session attendees key insights on aluminum's long history in the automotive industry," said Richman. "As aluminum use in auto bodies grows exponentially in the next decade, we applaud the SCRS' efforts to educate and train repair professionals to be better prepared for the change in status quo materials that come through their shop doors."

The SEMA show will be held Nov. 4–7 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas. The OEM collision Repair Technology summit will be held Nov. 5 and is sponsored by PPG Refinish Products, Ford Motor Company, BASF, Toyota Motor Sales and The Hertz Corp.
