ADAS Applications: What They Are & What They Do

What is ADAS Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), are technological features that are designed to improve driver safety and prevent automotive accidents. ADAS utilizes sensors such as radar, sonar, lidar and cameras to perceive the world around the vehicle, and either provide critical information to the driver or take automatic action to avoid or mitigate the effects of a crash. ADAS systems are designed to increase driver safety and decrease the number and/or the severity of automotive accidents. According to a study conducted by AAA foundation, ADAS has the potential to prevent 40% of all vehicle crashes, 37% of injuries and 29% of vehicular deaths. ADAS Applications ADAS sensors need to be precisely aimed and calibrated to function correctly. A sensor or camera even slightly out of alignment could result in its scanning area to be off-axis by 50 feet or more, which might cause it to miss hazards. Today, eleven of the twenty-eight major auto manufacturers in North America require ADAS calibration following a wheel alignment, including Ford, Volkswagen, Jeep, Kia, Dodge, and Subaru. Payment options The Dangers of Using Non-Autel ADAS Components with Autel Software When Autel speaks of our ADAS calibration products, we reference them as systems. And that is because each component is engineered to work as part of the whole. Each component of the system is dependent upon the specificity of the other to produce accurate calibrations that are verifiable to OE specifications. Further, the Autel ADAS calibration software was developed for our systems only. The use of non-Autel components with our software will result in inaccurate calibrations. It’s vital to understand the precise nature by which these safety systems, cameras and sensors operate. Alignment and calibrations that are off by as little as one degree can result in up to 1.5-meter lateral miscalculations at 100-meter distance between vehicles. Such inaccuracies can lead to false ADAS interventions or accidents. Shops knowingly calibrating vehicles with mismatched calibration components are fully responsible for calibration errors and will assume liability. Autel technical support staff will not support or assist in any calibration that uses non-Autel branded ADAS calibration products.  Products Support Subscribe to our e-newsletter Get the latest Autel product news and updates delivered directly to your inbox. * indicates required First Name Last Name Email Address * Diagnostics ADAS TPMS Click outside to hide the comparison bar Compare
