Silver is world’s most popular car color

Dec. 7, 2010—Silver and black are in a close race to be the world’s most popular car color, according to a DuPont press release_notes.

DuPont on Tuesday issued its 58th Global Automotive Color Popularity Report, which includes automotive color popularity and regional trends from the 11 leading automotive regions of the world. The top 10 most popular colors are:

1. Silver at 26 percent;
2. Black at 24 percent;
3. White/white pearl and gray at 16 percent each (tie);
4. Red at 6 percent;
5. Blue at 5 percent;
6. Brown/beige at 3 percent;
7. Green at 2 percent;
8. Yellow/gold at 1 percent;
9. Others at less than 1 percent.

"Our annual global color analysis allows DuPont to share insights into global color trends with automakers as they're planning future vehicle designs," said Nancy Lockhart, DuPont color marketing manager. "The demand for fresh, high-quality information is more relevant today than ever before, as the industry continues to see increased consumer demand for innovative vehicle design and styling."

In the United States, white/white pearl holds the lead for the fourth year in a row at 21 percent, black came in second at 18 percent and silver was third at 17 percent.
