June 23, 2011 — The Collision Industry Conference (CIC) on Thursday announced that its Repair Standards Advisory Committee has begun work on a business case for an independent repair standards organization.

The CIC decided in July 2010 to develop the United States Collision Repair Standards Institute (USCRSI) to manage the creation, maintenance and implementation of repair standards for the U.S. collision industry. The proposal was the culmination of four years of analysis, which later led to the development of the Repair Standards Advisory Committee to guide the new group’s creation.

Work on the business case will involve interviews designed to set the level of industry support for repair standards and evaluate business models.

“Our interview schedule is very aggressive,” said Russell Thrall III, co-chair of the Repair Standards Advisory committee. “The key to the success of this research is the involvement of all segments of the broader industry, repairers, insurers, suppliers, vehicle manufacturers and others, in the research.”

Michael Condon, who will conduct the interviews and develop the business case, said every interview would be anonymous to ensure a frank discussion.

“We plan an efficient and thoughtful interview process, capturing not only relevant data but the ideas and opinions of the best and brightest in the industry,” he said.

Interviews will be conducted from July 1 through the end of August. The industry is funding the initiative on a volunteer basis. Companies and individuals interested in supporting the work can send sponsorship checks to:
