Jan. 31, 2013—Iowa state Sen. Brad Zaun (R-20) recently introduced a bill requesting an interim study committee on automobile insurance direct repair programs (DRPs), according to the Automotive Service Association (ASA).
Under Iowa Senate Bill 42, the committee will study DRPs used by automobile insurance companies to provide repairs for claimants.
The study would include a review and analysis of the use of DRPs by the auto insurance industry in Iowa, and the effect that such programs have on collision repair shops, insurance costs and Iowa consumers.
The committee will be comprised of several Iowa representatives, including three consumers, four auto body shops and four insurance professionals.
