Report: collision shops need OE information

Feb. 24, 2010—Repair shops must have access to vehicle manufacturers’ original equipment (OE) repair information, according to a white paper release_notesd Wednesday by ALLDATA.

The white paper claims OE information is essential to a repair shop’s productivity and safety.

Manufacturers have specific requirements about sectioning, weld types, panel attachment, handling new materials and hybrid safety, says Dan Espersen, ALLDATA senior program manager for collision. Every manufacturer has its own requirements.

The white paper reports that collision shops are realizing that they need up-to-date information for working on alternative steels, magnesium, aluminum, composites and plastics to ensure repairs are done accurately and efficiently.

OE information is recognized as the most accurate source for specifications, procedures and diagrams in making collision repairs, according to the report.
