Feb. 18, 2013— AIRMIKA Inc., an event data recorder (EDR) standardization, regulation and legislation company, recently introduced the AUTOcyb, an automotive cyber security lock intended to maintain the authenticity and safety of crash data vehicle EDRs.
The vehicle connecter is designed for post-1996 light vehicles that contain a Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC). The connector attaches to the vehicle’s DLC and allows the vehicle owner control over access to the vehicle’s connecter download port.
Earlier this month, a coalition of privacy, consumer rights, civil liberties and technology organizations joined the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), a public interest research center, in issuing docket submissions to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The coalition asked NHTSA to assure that security standards are in place for gathering EDR data in the proposed EDR rulemaking that will require all new passenger cars and light trucks to have EDRs, or automotive black boxes.
