Thus far this year’s Foundation fundraising drive has been met with enthusiastic support with seven tire and retread manufacturers having pledged support, according to Larry Brandt, TIA’s president.

Major contributors include Bridgestone, Cooper, Goodyear, Kumho, Michelin, Yokohama and Marangoni Tread North America.

Brandt says he “looks forward to continuing TIA’s executive meetings with tire and retread manufacturers, hearing their concerns on the industry, how TIA can continue to provide leading advocacy and training to meet the needs of those in the tire business and gaining additional backing for the TIA 2012 Foundation fundraising effort.”

Contributions have financed the development of a number of training initiatives over the past decade. Most recently Foundation funds helped develop the Spanish translation of TIA’s Commercial Tire Service (CTS) program and will support development of the new Farm Tire Service (FTS) training that is expected to be released next year.

Without the Foundation, TIA would not have been able to produce a much-needed training program for members with Spanish-speaking technicians or a new program that covers the service procedures and safety guidelines for agricultural tires, according to Brandt.

The TIA Foundation, which began in 2001, is a completely separate 501(c)3 nonprofit entity of TIA. Contributions are tax-deductible. The Foundation’s sole purpose is to fund training and education, which means every dollar contributed is returned to the industry in the form of a new program or video, Brandt points out.

Companies or individuals interested in donating can send a check (payable to “TIA Foundation”) to: TIA Foundation, Tire Industry Association, 1532 Pointer Ridge Place, Suite G, Bowie, MD 20716. It can provide receipts upon request for tax purposes.
