In recognition of its “Zero Waste to Landfill” program, Goodyear is receiving a 2012 Manny Award in the “Green Initiative” category from Inside Business, a bimonthly business publication in Northeastern Ohio.
Since 2008, the tire maker has not sent any manufacturing waste from its 53 factories to landfills anywhere in the world. The initiative was started in 2006 to reduce its environmental impact by requiring all the plants to reduce, reuse and recycle waste materials.
“Goodyear believes our Zero Waste to Landfill initiative represents a responsible next step in environmental stewardship, both through the effective management of byproducts and also the elimination of materials going into landfills,” says Dave Chapman, director of environmental, health and safety sustainability.
“As part of our corporate mission, we strive to take care of our environment and communities, and achieving Zero Waste to Landfill is a win for both,” he observes.
The program will be featured in the May/June issue of Inside Business.
In addition to the 2012 Manny Award for Zero Waste to Landfill, Goodyear received a 2011 Manny Award in the “Employee Safety” category for its “No One Gets Hurt” internal safety strategy.
