BMW chairman Norbert Reithofer announced at the 2010 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition that the carmaker aims to sell around 120,000 vehicles in China this year, up from its previously stated goal of 100,000.

The carmaker showcased the BMW ActiveE, a fully electric car based on the BMW 1 Series Coupe, at the Beijing auto show. It will introduce the car in China next year as a test fleet. BMW will also launch 50 Mini E electric cars in the country as a field trial this year.

In addition, the automaker plans to develop and produce a new-energy vehicle for the Chinese market in collaboration with its local partner Brilliance while expanding its research and development efforts at a facility in Shenyang, Liaoning province.
