Toyota Motor Corporation announced on Jan. 28 the recall of 75,000 RAV4 sports utility vehicles in China due to faulty accelerator pedals, leading to significantly decreased sales of the model.
Although Toyota said the company has fixed the problem, many consumers have canceled their orders on concerns over safety of the model.
Some dealers admitted that the recall has negatively influenced RAV4 sales to some degree. However, they refused to disclose the specific figures.
As a result of the recall, RAV4's competitive models such as Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage are expected to see a slight growth in sales in the near term.
