STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – General Motors has approved the PPG Envirobase High Performance and Nexa Autocolor Aquabase Plus waterborne basecoat systems from PPG Automotive Refinish for all of its dealership repairs. All products in the Envirobase and Aquabase waterborne basecoat systems are included in the approval, and are indicated in the “GM Approved Refinish Materials” bulletin, GM4901M. “Skilled technicians using the right materials offer the only path to true customer satisfaction,” says Brian Dotterer, Materials & Technologies development manager of service operations for General Motors. “By adhering to the GM4901M Specification for Aftermarket Paint Repair Materials, dealers will ensure our customers only receive the best while maximizing quality throughout on exterior finish repairs.” PPG says its waterborne technology has proven itself for more than a decade, and the company was the innovator of the world’s first commercially-viable waterborne refinish basecoat back in 1992. Since then, PPG’s global research and development team has continuously worked to improve the products for use in refinish applications, and today PPG and Nexa Autocolor waterborne basecoat systems are used by thousands of collision centers across Europe, where they have transitioned to stringent VOC regulations. According to Doug Beuke, compliant segment manager for PPG North America, “Every shop affected by these rulings should begin planning their conversion to waterborne now. Although this may seem to be a difficult move, actually PPG waterborne basecoat systems will make shop life easier. PPG waterborne basecoat systems are as easy to use as solventborne systems, require no special additives, feature a complete range of non-stir toners and are very simple to blend. PPG waterborne systems also offer superior color accuracy, providing consistent color and metallic control across a variety of different application techniques. These leading edge compliant product offerings are fully supported by a comprehensive range of cross referenced color tools and state-of-the-art training.” For more information on PPG waterborne basecoat systems, go to www.ppgrefinish.com or contact your local PPG distributor.
