Pro Spot International Inc., based in Carlsbad, Calif., recently opened a new manufacturing and production facility. Joran Olsson, president of the resistance spot welding equipment manufacturing company, sat down with ABRN to discuss the changes and what is ahead for Pro Spot.

Tell me about the new facility and its benefits for Pro Spot.

The new Pro Spot facility in Carlsbad, California, is about 50,000 sq. ft, over twice the size of our previous location in Oceanside. This gives us more room to expand our production area, machine shop, fabricating area, house our automated powder coating system and expand our Sales & Service Training facility.

Customer service is a main focus at Pro Spot. What does the company offer that sets it apart?

We are specialized in resistance spot welding for the collision industry. We make everything in house; fully equipped machine shop, sheet metal shop, conveyer powder coating line together with assembly lines for our welders. We are producing in Carlsbad, CA. We have been in business for over 20 years and intends to continue the tradition. We are a fast
company meaning changes and improvements can be done quickly with help of our in-house engineering and manufacturing. We know resistance spot welding, we know power, we know the differences in voltages on the US market and have adapted our welders to work under most challenging conditions. Our mission is quality- our machines are well made and meant to last. We offer live technical support for our distributors and customers in addition to online training and trouble shooting via my.prospot.com

What training opportunities are available for Pro Spot customers?

Pro Spot provides on-going training to all of our distributors and their technicians. Therefore, all owners of Pro Spot products receive complete training first hand. We have two Case/ ASE certified training programs that also are I-CAR alliance approved. We also have a fully equipped training facility in the new building for groups to come in and train on any and all products. My.prospot.com including interactive training courses available for shops & technicians to access online.

Is Pro Spot working on any new products or initiatives?

We are always working on new products and to make our existing products better. Our R&D and engineering  departments are always busy. In the last year we have introduced 8 new products such as Nitrogen Plastic Welder, Hybrid Spot Welder, Smart Mig welder, Hot Staple welder, Aluminum weld station with pulse mig, inverter plasma cutters, etc. And of course the new i5 Smart spot welder with auto weld . These are products that are needed in today's ever changing collision repair industry.

What are some of the biggest challenges in welding and how does Pro Spot help to address these?

The collision repair industry is constantly evolving with each new car model. The new super hard metals is being designed in to all vehicles now. They are designed to save lives and stand up for extreme force compared to the old steels. The challenge is to repair and weld those metals. We have designed welders that measure the thickness and the resistance in the metals before it welds it and automatically apply the correct power. We are working a lot with aluminum repair which will be more common as well in most vehicles soon. Our goal is to stay ahead of the game and have quality Pro Spot equipment available for repair shops in every capacity.
