The Nashville I-CAR Committee is an active group of volunteers from local auto body shops, manufacturers, distributors, automotive insurers, car rental agencies and car dealers. Local donors on this project include ABRA, Accurate Autobody, Affordable Auto Glass, AutoBody America, Colormatch, Crest Cadillac, Enterprise, LKQ Corp/Keystone, Prices Collision, the Nashville Auto Diesel College, and 3M.

These participating sponsors donated a 2008 Cadillac SRX, as well as the restoration supplies and labor required to make quality repairs to the vehicle. The group’s goal was to bring a damaged vehicle up to industry standards, and sell it in order to raise funds for an I-CAR training curriculum at the school. In addition to the sale of the vehicle, Enterprise Rent-A-Car contributed funds to supplement the donation.

The funds raised by the local I-CAR Committee were facilitated through the Collision Repair Education Foundation. Brandon Eckenrode, Director of Development at the Education Foundation, participated in presenting the check to McGavock. He said the organization has provided more than $10 million dollars to collision school programs nationwide since 2008.

The Nashville I-CAR Committee selected McGavock High School, because of their automotive program, and their proximity to the Committee sponsors. McGavock is the second largest high school in Tennessee, with a total of approximately 2,200 students. Attending students are registered in academy programs that relate to fields of industry. Approximately 18 percent of the students attend the Aviation & Transportation Academy, which includes the automotive program.

Automotive students attended an assembly on Nov. 28, 2012, which included several speakers, along with the presentation of an oversized check in the amount of $5,200. Media Academy students filmed and photographed the event, while students from the Hospitality Academy cooked and served a lunch at the academy restaurant, which is sponsored by Gaylord Hotels. Guests at the lunch included committee members, sponsors, I-CAR dignitaries, academy faculty, and Nashville Public School officials.
