Iowa Senator seeks review of direct repair programs

Iowa Sen. Brad Zaun introduced a bill seeking to form a committee to study insurance direct repair programs in the state and their effect on collision repair shops, insurance costs and consumers.

The committee is proposed to include legislative members, three consumers, four auto body repair shop representatives and four insurance industry reps. The committee would meet twice during 2011 and submit its findings in a report to the general assembly by Jan. 1, 2012.

The bill, known as Senate File 23, was assigned to the Senate Commerce Committee.
