Understanding where a refinish should begin and end isn’t a small detail - it’s essential to quality and warranty compliance. In this video from the Society of Collision Repair Specialists, Gary Wano Jr. of GW and Son and Kris Burton of Rosslyn Auto Body discuss how to properly define a natural panel break and why the refinish process must carry fully to the edge of a panel to meet paint manufacturer and OEM expectations.

The conversation highlights the important responsibility repairers have to deliver a warrantable repair. That may mean refinishing an entire unit side, roof, or adjoining panels when required to ensure durability, appearance, and OEM alignment. While shortcuts are sometimes pressured, they rarely meet the standard necessary for long-term performance or customer protection.

By training technicians, relying on paint manufacturer guidance, and establishing consistent refinishing standards across the facility, shops can confidently navigate these decisions and maintain trusted repair outcomes.

This video was filmed at the I-CAR Training Center in Appleton, Wisconsin.
