SCRS Quick Tip: Weld Test Station

Learn about the importance of destructive test welding, having a dedicated setup, and the proper testing tools in two minutes.

Before a technician lays down a weld on a vehicle, it’s critical to know that the weld will hold up to the structural demands on the joining process.

In this video from the Society of Collision Repair Specialists, Gary Wano Jr. of GW and Son is joined by T.J. O’Rourke of I-CAR discuss the importance of destructive weld testing — from open butt joint tear-out checks to peel tests for resistance spot welds. Learn how these processes give technicians confidence that their welds are set to perform as intended in two minutes.

Having a dedicated setup, complete with clamps, pliers, and proper testing tools, allows technicians to validate weld quality in real time. This not only protects the repair integrity but also ensures that every technician feels confident and equipped before moving to the vehicle itself.

This video was filmed at the I-CAR Training Center in Appleton, Wisconsin.
