SCRS Quick Tip: Researching Failed Calibrations

Learn how to troubleshoot calibration failures in four minutes and check out the flowchart for ADAS calibration troubleshooting.

If you routinely perform calibrations, failures are inevitable — what matters is how you respond.

In this video filmed at the I-CAR Training Center in Appleton, Wisconsin, Andy Tylka of TAG Auto Group and Josh McFarlin of AirPro Diagnostics dive into the realities of calibration failures and how to effectively troubleshoot them. They talk through utilizing SOPs and troubleshooting flowcharts to systematically address critical areas needed for a successful calibration.

From validating the environment — checking floor level, lighting conditions, and minimizing distractions, to reviewing the process — starting with vehicle preparation, and pulling current service information to avoid common mistakes. Even sensor validation and ensuring proper installation, identifying damage, and understanding how even small factors such as paint thickness can impact calibration can be the difference between a successful and failed calibration.

A solid SOP can save time and improve results. Below is a screenshot from the video of a flowchart for troubleshooting ADAS calibration:
