Toyota Leads Automakers in 2012 U.S. Patents Issued

July 8, 2013—The United States Patent and Trademark Office issued 1,491 patents to Toyota in 2012, more than any other automaker.

The recently release_notesd survey by the Intellectual Property Owners Association showed a 30 percent increase in Toyota patents from 2011.

The patents are related to a variety of innovations including smart materials that help cars resist insect splatter and advances in vehicle communication systems.
