May 26, 2011 — The Automotive Service Association (ASA) expressed its support for vehicle disclosure legislation and replacement crash parts notice and consent at its recent Taking the Hill meeting in Washington, D.C.
The ASA supports the “Damaged Vehicle Information Act,” proposed by Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. The act directs the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to require greater disclosure of information relating to the market value and safety of damaged motor vehicles.
ASA leaders also emphasized the importance of consumers having information about replacement crash parts. ASA’s policy for automotive replacement crash parts stresses that consumers should know what types of crash parts are used in repairing their vehicles, and grant written consent to use these parts.
