Tech School Students Restore Red Cross Trailer

Jan. 2, 2014

Jan. 2, 2014—As part of a community outreach program, collision repair students from Savannah Technical College recently helped to restore an old trailer for the southeast Georgia chapter of the American Red Cross.

The trailer, according to a report Wednesday in The Savannah Tribune, was in such disrepair that it couldn’t serve its purpose of transporting goods to shelter disaster victims.

It took the 12 students a month to wash, sand, recaulk, waterproof and repaint the trailer.

“This trailer was the very first disaster shelter trailer we had for our chapter,” Red Cross disaster services director John Wright told the Tribune. “When the paint came off with washing, we knew we couldn’t put it back in service. We also knew we didn’t have the funds to purchase a new trailer.”
The project was completed as part of the school’s refinishing course.
