May 11, 2011 — Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie recently vetoed legislation that would have diluted the state’s Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection Program, according to a news release_notes from the Automotive Service Association (ASA).
Hawaii Senate Bill 1416 would have exempted vehicles from testing during their first two or three years, which the ASA has argued would create unsafe highways. State government studies of inspection programs in Missouri and Pennsylvania have shown that they deter accidents, injuries and deaths, according to the ASA.
