May 6, 2011 — Toyota on Thursday announced a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross for tornado relief efforts in the U.S.
The auto manufacturer, still recovering from the March earthquake and tsunami in Japan, said it would also match employee contributions to the Red Cross. It will offer additional support to employees who lost their homes in the storms, which ripped through several southern states in late April.
“All of us at Toyota express our sincere condolences to the families affected by these devastating storms,” said Yoshi Inaba, president and CEO of Toyota Motor North America. “Since we have manufacturing plants, suppliers and many dealerships in the regions that were hit the hardest, we felt a special responsibility to lend a hand. In addition to this financial support, many Toyota employees are already involved in volunteer activities to support those in need. We very much appreciate their personal engagement.”
Toyota operates 14 manufacturing plants in North America, including one that is under construction. The company runs more than 1,800 North American Toyota, Lexus and Scion dealerships.
