September 23, 2010—NSF International announced Thursday that Diamond Standard Parts’ high-density foam vehicle absorbers are the first absorbers to be certified by NSF’s Automotive Aftermarket Parts Certification Program.
In July, NSF certified Diamond Standard’s steel bumpers. To obtain NSF certification, the bumpers and absorbers were independently reviewed, tested and compared by NSF to original equipment (OE) service parts. The certification process also included:
• An on-site inspection of the manufacturing and quality system;
• Verification that a company has a traceability program that meets or exceeds stringent requirements;
• Rigorous part testing to ensure the highest level of performance.
To maintain NSF certification Diamond Standard must undergo quarterly facility inspections, random in-market part testing, which will validate the part’s quality and integrity, and the parts must display the NSF mark, according to an NSF press release_notes.
“NSF International’s certification of Diamond Standard Parts’ absorber complements the company’s recent bumper certification,” said Bob Frayer, director of NSF International’s Automotive Aftermarket Parts Certification Program and Engineering Laboratories. “It’s important that parts replicate the original to maintain safety performance requirements.”
