As noted last month in FenderBender, the insurance industry is embracing telematics at a rapid rate to remain relevant in the age of autonomous vehicles. CCC Information Services is pushing for that OEM-insurance partnership with CCC Drive, which is a telematics platform that allows a vehicle to automatically notify an insurer when a crash occurs—and helps the underwriter determine what happens next.
Smartphone app usage is increasing among every age group with users demonstrating strong engagement and loyalty—a trend noted by Jürgen Mayntz, who noted in an interview with FenderBender that app companies' increasing engagement with OEMs will improve independent shops' access to vehicle data foior repairs. However, as the competition for smartphone app real estate intensifies, the concern of having too many consumer apps has given rise to a growing development trend towards unified and integrated apps—due to the high cost to promote and support multiple apps and the challenge to ensure a consistent, engaging experience across more than one app.
