Sept. 21, 2017—AkzoNobel recently opened what it claims is the planet’s most sustainable paint factory, in Ashington, UK. The new plant was designed with the goal of cutting emissions, largely by recycling all of its water and many of the solvents used to make paints, as noted in a report by Chemistry World.
Additionally, the production line will not have any open vats. The new AkzoNobel plant will rely on solar panels and a biomass boiler that burns wood pellets. The facility will also use low-energy lighting.
According to AkzoNobel CEO Thierry Vanlancker, the new facility is evidence “that AkzoNobel is pretty confident about its future.”
