LaMettry's Presents Recycled Ride to Local Vet

Sept. 11, 2017

LaMettry's threw its first Recycled Rides event at its newest facility in Chanhassen, Minn.

Sept. 11, 2017— On Friday, LaMettry’s donated a vehicle as a part of the National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides program.

The event was held in LaMettry’s newest facility, which opened July 1st in Chanhassen, Minn. This is LaMettry’s seventh year as part of the Recycled Rides program.

The vehicle, a 2014 Dodge Caravan, was donated to Justin Griego of Chaska, Minn.

Griego joined the Navy right out of high school and was deployed twice. During his second deployment, Griego was injured during a post-flight inspection when a helicopter blade came down on the back of his head and neck resulting in muscle damage, insomnia, and other long term disabilities.

In 2013, Justin and his fiancé, Chelsea, had a baby boy, Matthew. Shortly after his birth, Chelsea was diagnosed with cervical cancer. During this difficult time, Matthew also began to exhibit signs of early autism.

In order to take care of his family, Griego had to quit his job. Shortly after, the family became homeless. Currently, the family is with a program that helps homeless veterans. Griego is now studying to become an educator and hopes to help children like his son.

The nomination committee selected Griego as the recipient thanks to his continued service to others. “He’s a very good example of service before self,” the committee stated.

Griego says that the car will help transport his son and will help him with his continued education.

Darrell Amberson, president of operations at LaMettry’s, presented the keys to Griego. The vehicle was donated by State Farm Insurance with LaMettry's and several vendors donating parts.
