April 5, 2017—Ford recently announced it plans to invest $1.2 billion in three manufacturing sites in Michigan. The automaker plans to invest $850 million to revamp its Michigan Assembly Plant, and said it plans to create 130 jobs and invest $150 million to expand capacity for several vehicles at the Romeo Engine Plant in Michigan.
Ford is also investing $200 million for an advanced data center to support the company’s expansion to an auto and mobility company, because the automaker expects its data usage to increase immensely as vehicles become more connected. Those investments are in addition to the company’s plans to add $700 million and 700 new jobs at its Flat Rock, Mich. facility, which it announced in January.
“At Ford, we are investing aggressively in building on our strengths today … while at the same time growing our leadership in electrification, autonomy and mobility services,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president, the Americas, in a company statement.
In the past three months, Ford has announced $1.9 billion in new investments in Michigan.
