Ford Cancels Plans for Mexico Plant, Announces Investment in Electric Vehicles

Jan. 4, 2017—Ford plans to introduce 13 new global electrified vehicles over the next five years, and the automaker also announced plans to invest $700 million to expand its Flat Rock Assembly plant in Michigan.

The motor company cancelled its plans to build a $1.6 billion plant in Mexico, according to a report by USA Today. The plant in Mexico had been met with opposition by President-elect Trump.  

Among the 13 new electrified vehicles announced include a hybrid version of the F-150 pickup and Mustang.

The $700 million investment in Michigan will be used to expand the Flat Rock facility and build high-tech autonomous and electric vehicles along with the Mustang and the Continental. The expansion will add 700 new jobs.
